Resources for Addressing The Stress, Emotions, and Psychological Impact Of Flood Victims
Our beautiful city and province has undergone a major natural disaster that has impacted thousands of families. While the physical aspects of getting things back up and running is a priority, we recognize and realize that the emotional and psychological impact of this tragedy will take much longer to assess and provide adequate solutions to. The stress and emotional trauma associated with the devastation many have experienced is off the charts. Family dynamics are strained as people try to cope with the loss of personal items and the magnitude of the clean up they now face. What we often forget in these types of situations is that the fear and stress experienced by adults is magnified in our children tenfold when the adults in their lives are occupied with such tragedies. Normally our program deals with strategies for empowering children with life skills to deal with emotional management, communication, stress reduction and other aspects of life. That being said, these tools are also very useful to adults during times of crisis as well.
Until such time as access to local resources and professionals are possible, we would like to offer an interim online access point to resources provided by world renowned experts in their fields to those affected by the flood. The following audios, videos and downloads are provided as starting points to reducing the stress and emotional trauma that has been experienced by many.
