Money and finances - a topic we tend to shy away from discussing. Why?
Because it's not a subject we were taught anything about.
With the debt loads many in our society are burdened with, it's not something
we are comfortable admitting we don't understand, which makes it difficult to teach.
Never has the need for financial literacy been so great, with students taking on huge debt before they have even finished their schooling. So how do we teach them the concepts behind successful money management and ensuring they can live comfortable lives without worrying about finances?
This is what my conversation with Sharon Lechter centered around today.
Sharon is an entrepreneur, author, philanthropist, educator, international speaker, licensed CPA and mother. Co-author of the bestselling book, "Think and Grow Rich - Three Feet From Gold" with the Napoleon Hill Foundation, "Rich Dad Poor Dad" and 14 other books in the Rich Dad series, she is also the founder of Pay Your Family First, a company dedicated to empowering children and families to build prosperous futures through financial literacy education.
During our discussion, we spoke about how to teach practical skills that will give children the
self-assurance to become masters of their money instead of slaves to it. We talked about the key components of financial literacy that are much needed to empower today's youth so they can avoid debt and never struggle with finances while they thrive in life. I also learned from Sharon the reasons why encouraging entrepreneurship is more important than ever today.
